Laser Tools Pre 93 Touring Cars Silverstone race report

Father and son duo Andy and Michael Sheraton made a triumphant return to multiple driver racing last weekend as the Pre 1993 Touring Cars headed to the Silverstone International Circuit.

Both drivers took part in the damp Saturday qualifying session behind the wheel of the Laser Tools backed-BMW E30, with limited time available to get to grips with the circuit and set a competitive time.

Having marginally set the faster time, Michael took to the grid for Race One as the track began to dry from the earlier rain. However, the conditions would soon change, setting the perfect backdrop for a four way battle for 5th overall that would see the team gain and loose positions in a whirlwind of shuffling. Eventually, Michael crossed the line 6th overall and 1st in class.

Sunday saw Andy start Race Two from the back of the grid as a result of the two driver format. Carving his way through the field, Andy found himself in a battle for the class lead and 9th overall, a position that he managed to maintain for the duration.

The chequered flag finally fell on what has been a remarkable season in unprecedented circumstances and the BMW finished a commendable 3rd in the championship and 1st in Class D. Whilst this has certainly been a difficult year for many people, motorsport has provided a safe and greatly needed piece of escapism for everyone involved.
