BTCC Oulton Park - June 17-18
Congratulations to Jake Hill and Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport on their exceptional performance at Oulton Park! It was a near-perfect race day for the team, with Jake Hill securing a double race victory, a second-place finish, and three fastest laps, earning a remarkable 62 points.
In the first race, Jake made a fantastic start and took the lead from the front row. He defended his position skillfully while managing his tires, gradually increasing the gap to the chasing pack. He ultimately claimed his and the team's first victory of the season.
The success continued as Jake secured another great start in the second race, allowing him to retain the lead. Despite a safety car period, Jake expertly managed the restart and extended his lead. Crossing the finish line, he celebrated his second victory of the day, marking the first time he and the team had won two races in a single race weekend.
For the reverse-grid race, starting from P7, Jake capitalized on a strong start once again, climbing up the order. Taking advantage of incidents ahead, he found himself in fifth place after the first lap. With skillful overtakes, Jake moved into the top three and engaged in intense battles with his fellow BMW drivers from the WSR stable. Ultimately, he secured second place, completing a remarkable weekend and achieving his highest-scoring weekend as a BTCC driver.
As a result of his outstanding performances, Jake Hill has catapulted into third position in the Drivers' Championship standings. He currently sits 20 points behind reigning champion Tom Ingram and 26 points behind the championship leader, Ash Sutton.
Jake commented: “I’m not quite sure I have got the words to sum up that race weekend! It’s been a phenomenal day, I am over the moon but I am also so happy for everyone involved. My engineer Craig Porley and all the team at WSR have given me a fantastic car and the ‘Laser-Beamer’ was on-song all weekend."
“Although we’ve been up the front most of the year, we’ve been searching for that little bit of an edge and I felt like we were properly on top form. To claim two victories, a second-placed finish and three fastest laps is something I am really proud of and I’m so happy to deliver that for everyone who works so hard to support our programme. Hopefully it was a good enough Father's Day present for Dad as well! We can now take a bit of a break now in July, knowing that it is all to play for in the second half of the season.”
The team and Jake Hill head into the mid-season break filled with optimism for the second half of the season, having showcased their competitiveness and potential at Oulton Park. The next rounds are at Croft on July 29-30.
