BTCC Season Launch — Thruxton April 13
Laser Tools Racing kick off their 2022 BTCC with the launch day at Thruxton. Dexter Patterson enjoyed a lot of laps and learnt even more about the car. Aiden Moffat sadly suffered an engine failure but was able to help Dexter throughout the afternoon.
The 13th of April saw the launch day of the 2022 British Touring Car Championship season at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire. It was the first chance Laser Tools Racing had to present the fully liveried Infinitis to be raced this season by multiple race winner Aiden Moffat and the new recruit and former World Karting Champion Dexter Patterson. These two successful young Scotsmen, proudly sporting the saltire on their cars, are looking forward to an amazing season this year.
The cars looked magnificent and the two young guns were desperate to get out and put more mileage under their belts. This year has seen a big change as the cars are now in the hybrid era and are sporting never raced before engines from new supplier M-Sport and a hybrid system from Cosworth. Unfortunately for Aiden, his engine let go after a few laps, robbing him of a day’s testing. The cause was diagnosed as belt coming loose, and as the belt controls all of the engine cooling, that was the end of the engine and Aiden’s day. In some ways it is better to get this on a test day rather than on a race weekend, but it is something for the whole pit lane to be wary of as M-Sport supply a large percentage of the teams on the grid.
Dexter, on the other hand, enjoyed a great day and got a lot of running at what is Britain’s fastest circuit and really got to grips with the new car. By the end he looked as racy as anyone and had learnt a lot ahead of the season opener on the 23rd April at Donington Park.
Aiden Moffat: “It was disappointing to get such an early engine failure, but this is a new venture for the BTCC and I am excited to see what the new hybrids can really do at a race weekend”.
Dexter Patterson: “Getting the laps and miles under my belt is amazing, especially as this is a whole new class of racing for me. I am really getting to grips with the car and the team and Aiden have been amazing. I can’t wait for the season to start”.
